OUR
HISTORY
1862
- Dr. A. Daniels provided medical care to those seeking refuge in
St. Peter during the Indian uprising. The sick and wounded were
cared for in a makeshift hospital, the Ewing House (Brinkman's Apartments),
located on the corner of Third and Walnut Streets.
1905
- St. Peter's first recognized hospital out of the Kloss home. Although,
a "home" sanitarium may have proceeded the Kloss hospital.
1927
- Dr. W.W. Covell, a World War I surgeon, purchased the Theodore
Knoll building on Third Street and Park Row in 1927, to be used
as a 20 bed hospital.
1931
- Dr. Covell added a third story to the hospital, giving it a capacity
of 28 rooms.
1935
- A second hospital flourished in St. Peter, Cora-Lee Hospital,
and was operated by Cora and Leonard Hughs.
1938
- Covell Hospital closes and the City of St. Peter opens a new 38-bed
facility.
1959
- The city adds a new 45-bed hospital to the former 1939 hospital,
known as the East Wing.
