OB Department
Pregnancy
and childbirth is the most exciting time of your life. The OB unit
is here to make your experience special. The OB unit consists of
thee LDRP's. LDRP means: labor, delivery recover and post-partum;
all take place in the same room. This means you stay in the same
room from admission to discharge. The rooms are equipped with glider
rockers, armoire, table and chair sets, and sofa chairs which pull
out into a comfortable bed. Each room has a whirlpool bathtub, providing
the new mother with added comfort during labor, delivery and post-partum.
The
nurse who cares for you during labor and delivery also cares for
your baby. This personalized care enhances the ability for staff
to meet your personal and professional needs. "Rooming in" is encouraged
which means your baby may stay in your room as much as you wish.
You can also choose your own visiting hours.
Our
nurses are certified in neonatal resuscitation which assures they
are prepared to care for your baby in unexpected emergencies. The
labor and delivery nurses are experienced in fetal heart monitor
interpretation. The department has two lactation counselors on staff.
These nurses are there to assist with breast-feeding success and
assist when difficulties arise.
A doula is
available upon request. A doula is a certified labor coach who provides
physical, emotional and informational support to the mother and
her birth partner. The doula assists with a birth plan as well as
assisting the birth partner in finding the best methods to encourage
relaxation and labor progression. They also spend time with you
during the post-partum period. Contact the OB Department for further
information. Childbirth Education Classes are offered throughout
the year. Register early in your pregnancy to assure enrollment.
