General Radiology is available 24-hours a day. Through a computed Radiology System we are able to transmit images to Consulting Radiology 24-hours a day for a rapid diagnosis.

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT SCAN)
A computed tomography (CT) scan is a relativity simple, safe and painless examination.The scan produces a series of images and can detect many conditions that do not show up on conventional x-rays.

Who performs the test?

  I. Radiology Technologist:
     A) Who works closely with the radiologist and other physicians.
     B) Has done extensive training in the use of x-ray equipment and the care

          and safety of patients.
     C) Has completed two to four years in a college program of radiologic

         technology and is certified by the American Registry of Radiologic

II. Radiologist:
     A) A Radiologist is a physician who specializes in x-ray and the other

          radiation procedures. A radiologist completes three to four years advanced training after a medical

         degree, and an American Board of Radiology certified doctor.

Together these highly skilled professionals will make sure that your CT Scan images are of the best quality possible and that you are as comfortable as possible through the procedure.

CT Scan procedures at St. Peter Community Hospital are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week. We also have the capability to transmit these scans to Consulting Radiology or the on call radiologist for interpretation 24-hours a day.

RADIOGRAPHY

Plain x-ray imaging for all regions of the body.

FLUOROSCOPY
Specialized imaging that visualizes different areas of the gastrointestinal tract. Testing can range from digestion problems to evaluating stroke victims. Exams are done by a Radiologist and Radiologic Technologist on a scheduled basis.
                                                                                                                                                             
BONE DENSITOMETRY
SPCH has a bone densitometry machine on site. This GE Lunar unit features the latest in bone densitometry technology. The hospital also has licensed personnel on staff to perform the exams. Scheduling an exam time is convenient for our patients with appointments available on a daily basis.

                                                                                                                          

SURGERY
Our staff is trained to use the C-arm imaging unit and portable x-ray

to perform x-rays whenever needed during surgical procedures.

PORTABLE                                                                                                              

We are able to perform x-ray exams in almost any area of the hospital if the patient is unable to come to the department.

RADIOLOGISTS
The radiologist is on-site when needed for specialized exams and available by the tele-radiology 24/7.

TECHNOLOGISTS
Fully certified technologists are on staff Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on call 11:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday the department is staffed from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on call 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

MRI
(Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Takes images of the inside of the body using a high powered magnet. These detailed images detect disease, injury, disorders, as well as looking at vessels and blood flow. The MRI mobile service is available at the hospital on a weekly basis. After completion of the exams, images are interpreted by the radiologist from Consulting Radiology, who provide 24-hours a day coverage here at St. Peter Community Hospital.

                                                                                                                                      
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Nuclear Medicine uses very small amounts of radioactive material to diagnosis and sometimes treat disease. The mobile service is provided by DMS Imaging, on a as needed basis.

MAMMOGRAPHY
· ACR accredited.
· We have a certified Radiologist to read mammogram's.
· All Radiological Technologists are registered in mammography.
· We do mammography's five days a week by appointment.       

ECHOCARDIOGRAMS
A mobile service provided by Minneapolis Heart Institute. Echocardiograms direct ultrasonic waves through the chest wall.

CAROTID ULTRASOUND AND ARTERIAL STUDIES
Carotid Ultrasound are of the principal artery of the neck and arterial studies are of the peripheral arteries. This service is also provided by Minneapolis Heart Institute, as a mobile service on an as needed basis.                                                                                                                                            

GENERAL ULTRASOUND STUDIES
St. Peter Community Hospital is excited about their purchase of a brand new Phillips IU22 ultrasound machine. General Ultrasound studies are done here on a daily basis. Ultrasound studies evaluate areas such as OB, abdomen, pelvis, renal, extremities, etc. Ultrasound studies are scheduled during specific appointments daily and also are covered by call-back situations after business hours. After the initial technologist evaluations, these studies are interpreted by our radiologist from Consulting Radiology.

Our imaging department is a clinical site for Argosy University located in Eagan, Minnesota. Students come to our Imaging Services Department to receive15 weeks of training. These students already have an X-Ray operators license and are then able to help out with patients after they have tested out on the procedure.
